A giant grove of aspens are but one single organism, connected through deep roots, holding each other stronger because they are together

About

Aspen Collaborative Care was founded as the local community work initiated by Kay Alton under Alton Counseling and Consulting LLC.

It is comprised of therapists, social workers, community outreach workers, volunteers, parents and other community members that want to show up for their community.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  1. The therapeutic relationship is the most important factor for predicting growth which suggests the need for CHOICE in therapists, mentors, etc

  2. Therapeutic growth can come from ANYONE who has a good relationship with people; Mentor, Teacher, Custodian, Community member etc

  3. Predictors of a good relationship include people feeling SEEN and UNDERSTOOD in a TRUSTING and MUTUALLY RESPECTFUL relationship.

  4. PEER SUPPORT GROUPS are a powerful way for people to feel understood and connect.

  5. Majority of youth mental health is tied to family relationships. CAREGIVER support and psycho-education groups are pertinent.

  6. ALWAYS ASK what is needed and what resources are available before providing support
