Craniosacral Therapy with Kika

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork that focuses on the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. The therapy aims to release tension deep in the body, relieve pain, and improve overall health and well-being.

How Craniosacral Therapy Works:

  • Light Touch: During a CST session, the therapist uses a very light touch—often no more than the weight of a nickel—to gently palpate areas of the craniosacral system, primarily focusing on the skull (cranium), spine, and sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of the spine).

  • Subtle Rhythms: The therapist tunes into the craniosacral rhythm, a subtle, wave-like movement of the cerebrospinal fluid that flows between the head and sacrum. By sensing these rhythms, the therapist can identify restrictions or imbalances within the system.

  • Release of Restrictions: The therapist may apply delicate techniques to release any restrictions in the soft tissues surrounding the central nervous system. This process encourages the body's natural healing mechanisms to improve the functioning of the central nervous system and promote overall health.

Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy:

  • Relief from Pain and Tension: CST is often used to relieve chronic pain, tension headaches, migraines, neck pain, and back pain. It can also be beneficial for conditions like fibromyalgia and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

  • Stress Reduction: The gentle nature of CST can induce a deep state of relaxation, reducing stress and promoting a sense of calm and well-being.

  • Support for Emotional Healing: CST is believed to help release emotional trauma that may be stored in the body's tissues, aiding in emotional processing and mental health support.

  • Improved Functioning: By enhancing the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, CST is thought to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, which can have positive effects on overall health and vitality.

What to Expect in a Session:

  • Duration: A typical CST session lasts about 45 to 60 minutes. On retreat we can be flexible with what works with the schedule and your need.

  • Comfortable Setting: The therapy is usually performed with the client fully clothed, lying on a massage table in a quiet, comfortable environment.

  • Gentle Touch: The therapist’s touch is very light, and the experience is usually deeply relaxing. Some people may feel subtle movements or shifts in their body as tension releases.
